Over 1,150 local and foreign participants representing 60 countries and the relay category being sold out, competed on the course alongside more than 20 world-class professionals.

The race took place on a fast and scenic course that included a 1.9km swim in front of the beautiful Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa (host hotel and race central), a 90km bike ride along Danang’s pristine coastline and a 21km run along the city’s famous beach and passed the foot of the Marble Mountains.

Frenchman Cyril Viennot powered away on the bike to set up an outstanding victory over a bevy talented Australians in the blazing heat at IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam. The women’s race was more clear-cut with defending champion Caroline Steffen continuing her outstanding start to her 2016 season, proving very strong on the run for an impressive women’s field.

IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam 2016 served as a qualifying race for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia, and has forty-six age-group qualifying slots, including exclusive 70.3 World Championship and 70.3 Asia Pacific slots for the top Vietnamese male and female finishers.
